The Yukon Trail
Set during the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush. Outfit in Seattle, sail to Skagway, climb the Chilkoot Pass, and stake a claim on the Yukon River.
The Klondike Gold Rush adventure
The Yukon Trail is MECC's 1994 spiritual successor to The Oregon Trail. Same engine philosophy, very different journey: instead of an 1848 wagon party heading west, you play an 1897 prospector heading north to the Klondike. The trip starts in Seattle in August 1897, just before the actual rush peaked, and your job is to outfit, pick a partner, and reach Dawson City fast enough to stake a profitable claim before winter shuts the trail.
The game frames its history with cameos from the writer Jack London, who really did try his luck in the Klondike, and authentic 19th-century photographs that anchor the period. It rewards reading slowly. The sidebar facts and the conversations with townspeople carry as much real history as a chapter of a school textbook.
